Symptoms:
In the early stages of Dupuytren’s contracture, there will be a firm lump in the palm. This lump can be painful or painless. Sometimes, pitting or deep dents can be found in the skin surrounding the lump.
As the disease progress, which may take years, a hard cord is formed as an extension of the lump. Over time, this cord will pull the finger towards the palm and patient will have difficulties in straightening the finger. Finally, the affected finger will be fixed in bending position, and it cannot be straightened..
Another symptom which is also used in diagnosis is "Tabletop Test": it is when you are not able to lay your hand flat on a table, with your palm down.

Treatment:
There is no cure for this condition. However, physiotherapist/hand therapist will try to reduce the intensity and progression of the symptoms.
- Stretching exercises:
To maintain range of motion of the affected finger. When the disease progresses, it will be difficult to bend the finger backwards therefore you have to do stretching exercises regularly for the fingers.you shouldn't stop doing these exercises when you feel that you got better as this is a progressive disease and may take long time to progress.
2. Strengthening exercises:
We focus on strengthening the finger's extensors to prevent fingers from bending and go into flexion deformity.
